We’re a hardworking, creative integrated agency, and we get very excited when we find someone who acts and thinks a lot like us. We’re only as good as our people and we’re proud to have established a team that works and collaborates with JJ’s core values at heart – collaborate, challenge, create.
We’re pleased to introduce the newest member of the team, Rick Gillham. He comes to JJ as a creative artworker with a wealth of experience, creativity and Spanish linguistic skills.
Here’s a little bit about Rick
What’s your background?
I was introduced to the creative world during the age of camera and film and spent many a happy hour in a dark room (working – honestly!) until computers appeared on the scene and transposed all my skills to Macs and design applications. I grew up professionally in many agencies in the Sussex area, specialising in numerous industry sectors: Pharmaceutical, Optical, Leisure, Conference & Exhibitions, Publishing and even a stint working abroad in Spain managing the creation of a coastal magazine. I did a stint in the corporate world, but smaller agencies and teams are much more my thing as it’s just more fun and creative!
What do you love about creative design and marketing?
I just love starting with a blank page and experimenting with typography and colour to create something eye-catching and memorable. Seeing a project grow from an idea to a fully-fledged design project is very rewarding to see. It’s an ever-changing world in the creative industry and having the capability to gain more and more knowledge as the technology improves and grows is very exciting.
What excites you about working at JJ?
JJ’s a great place to work, with a friendly bunch and a location to die for! With lots of projects from a wide variety of clients, the working day is varied, sometimes challenging, but always fun and interesting. I love being busy working on many projects and JJ has all of that.
Are you a coffee or tea man?
Usually a tea man during the week, but if someone says “fancy a coffee” I find it hard to resist. Keeps the caffeine levels up to spark those creative ideas.
What have you thought of JJ so far?
So far, so great! Having been out of the agency world for six years, working in a corporate environment, I have missed the agency ethos very much. JJ has been a great place to reintroduce myself back into the zone. It’s great to work and communicate with people who understand the “agency” language. It’s reminded me how much I have missed it. JJ has an extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable approach to all campaigns and projects.
I’m a keen music fan and have played the guitar for fun for more years than I care to remember. I also love playing squash and force myself to go to the gym, which is hard. And I love languages – to date, Spanish is my only claim to fame, but I try to use it as much as I can.
What are your three desert island items?
It has to be my guitar, phone (just so I have lots of music to listen to) and eternal health would be a very good one on a desert island. Oh, and a regular supply of guitar strings, as they could get very rusty in the sea air!
The last word on Rick?
I’m always keen to learn and expand my thoughts and ideas generally in work, life and whatever comes along. I try to be helpful to others and “keep calm and carry on”. It works most of the time, but there’s always room for improvement.
